Dealer added unwanted extras to car finance after I declined them

Terrible car sales experience. Feeling ripped off.

I agreed to buy a new used car at the beginning of this month. Sat down with the sales guy and declined all the extras. He came back with a fresh piece of paper with the extras removed.

Then discussed finance and another man who didn’t finance verbally quoted a PCP, I was happy with the monthly payment and the balloon payment so agreed.

What I didn’t find out until 5 days later was that they had added the extras on to the finance deal amount they had quoted me!

I tried talking to them about it when I went back in to collect the car and the sales person said they would
need to speak to the finance person to sort it but they would
sort it and he would call me in a few days.

When I hadn’t heard anything I sent an email outlining the issue and now they want me to go and speak to them.

In did sign the finance agreement, but although it had the total amount on it there was a space on the agreement for ‘additional products’ and this was blank so I thought the amount was just for the car not the stupid extras they tried to upsell me and then added anyway!

Does anyone know what rights I have to get the extras taken off the finance? One extra was a tyre plan (which I obviously haven’t used as I knew nothing about it!) and the other was a paint protection plan which included some sort of protective coating they have apparently already applied even though I expressly declined it!

They really have ripped you off there with the blank space being filled in later. Horrible people!!

From experience they will take your complaint more seriously if you take a man in with you (literally any man you know, they don't have to speak). Either way, you'll have to escalate this to the manager to get these extras taken off your finance. The whole sale may need to be cancelled and done again (or not if you don't want to buy from them). Don't be fooled by them saying they can't refund the coating, they buy it very very cheaply and charge you a fortune. They'll probably say they sprayed something on the outside and the upholstery. Stand firm and do not accept you'll pay for this.

They'll try to say it's all too difficult to rearrange the finance but you'll be the one paying interest on their shitty extras! Don't fall for it and threaten to cancel the sale.

Dont be afraid to leave a really bad review on Google if this doesn't go your way, it may cause them to re-think.

If you dont get anywhere with your complaint go to trading standards.

Formal claim and if not resolved in appropriate time, escalate to financial ombudsman?

I went back to the dealership in person this morning, spoke to the manager. The sales guy was there, and TBH he was on my side. I think the finance guy has messed it all up.

Anyway, the manager has put in process to rearrange the finance deal, remove the additional £798 and cancel the additional products.

Thank you fir comments, I was prepared to fight it if needed but it is hopefully all sorted now.

I do have a feeling that if I hadn’t gone in today and dealt with it face to face they wouldn’t have actually sorted anything though! Just hoped I would quietly go away!

I was wary about using this dealership - we considered buying from them 12 years ago and the salesman was an absolute arse, misogynist, know it all creep so we ended up walking out! I figured that salesman wouldn’t still be there 12 years later and they would have improved things. The salesman wasn’t there but it seems the dealership still has issues!
