MN hive mind looking for some wisdom as my current car is throwing up more and more issues so think it’s time to seriously consider my next wheels. Tend to keep cars for 6ish years unless they throw up issues that then mean keeping isn’t the best solution.

I’m going between
mk2 Juke (current car is a mk1 Juke)
and
Peugeot 2008

Eventually it will become the default family car too when DH finance finishes in 2yrs time

WANTS
Automatic - this is a need for me due to disability
Petrol
23 plate onwards
Not ridiculous high mileage
Keyless entry
Reversing camera
Cruise control
budget £15k will be taking finance HP to cover difference between trade in (£9k) and new car. Will not consider PCP as would be paranoid keeping car proper immaculate and would have nothing to ‘show’ for it when the term is up.

My current juke is a 1.6 and it looks like the mk2 is only a 1l which seems gutless to me as the juke is a ‘heavy’ car

Test drove a 2008 and found it went like the wind, haven’t had the opportunity to test drive a mk2 juke yet but have been reading that they seem to be plagued with electronic issues.

Appreciate any wisdom you can share!

Neither! Both are absolute junk. How about a Toyota C-HR if you like that style of car?

KC2007 · 09/06/2026 07:06

Junk? How? Never had problems with Juke

jukevpug · 09/06/2026 09:20

@Shade17 I’m interested in why they are absolute junk?

jukevpug · 09/06/2026 09:22

@KC2007latest issue I had with my juke was the gearbox dumping its fluid due to corroded pipes 🫠 which is why I’m thinking stay with the Juke but then I’m reading on the Juke forums the electronic issues which = ££££ 😩 total minefield! Cars are getting too ‘smart’ now

The most recent Nissans are utter dog shit, mainly due to involvement of Renault.

KC2007 · 09/06/2026 16:11

I'm on my second Juke now and never have problem whatsoever on both but then again I purchased, maintain regularly and MOT mine directly with Nissan. Not a single problem so far.

Toyota

I’ve had 2 friends return their CH-R with major electronic issues, did consider them but slightly out of price range for me

On my third used juke and never had an issue

jukevpug · 09/06/2026 19:27

@Wigwambam65im tempted to swap to the mk2 going to move my 🍑 and try one. My current one is a 1.6 and the mk2’s seem to have a 1l worried it won’t have the power behind it?

Tekna + Hev CVT 1.6 - I love it

InveterateWineDrinker · 09/06/2026 20:48

If you like the Juke, consider a Dacia Sandero Stepway. Almost identical mechanically, but you'll get a much newer vehicle with lower mileage for the same budget.

SylvanMoon · 09/06/2026 20:49

Have you considered getting a hybrid car at all?

MyCottageGarden · 09/06/2026 21:06

Never ever everrrrr buy a Peugeot! They’re crap and fall apart. There’s a reason why they have the stigma they do. Also steer clear of hybrid MGs. Just trust me on that, their electrical systems are utterly renowned for being riddled with faults. I had one as a courtesy car and in 7 days, I had the AA out 6 times! He told me he sees more hybrid MGs than any other vehicle.

The 1l probably has a turbo , most of them do .

Shade17 · 09/06/2026 21:21

I suggest you look at the reliability reviews of the Juke. As an example, if you look at the latest What Car reliability survey from last year, you’ll see a Nissan coming in something like 29th of 30 brands and the Juke as the least reliable small SUV. You’ll see similar in whatever reliability survey you care to find, they’re notorious for being turds.

They hadnt really came on my radar. DH has a mild hybrid Mazda CX30x would need to research more me thinks. Definitely don’t want full EV

Ah but they were about 5th in the top 20 of most likely to be stolen.
I thought " oh , my little Juke is near the top of the charts for something. Somebody covers him"
Actually I really like my Nissan Juke it's a 1.2 with turbo boost for on the motorway.
I have heard worrying things about the newer ones though

mumofoneAloneandwell · 09/06/2026 22:41

Peugeot!

Isn’t it 1 litre but with a turbo? Which will rinse the petrol.

patooties · 09/06/2026 23:01

I wouldn’t get a Peugeot - we had one - awful - the electric/ on board computer thing went on ours when it was about 4 years old.
have you looked at Honda FRV/ HRV / CRV? I like a Honda

What about a Yaris Cross Hybrid? Very similar size to a Juke and excellent fuel economy.

Mine is definitely 1.6 - it’s a mild hybrid. My last one was 1.2 petrol and was great too.
