I love my Yaris, it drives smoothly, works better in town but I wouldn't want to do too much motorway driving in it. I spend a lot of time on country roads and I like how it drives on them.

It's also really fuel efficient.

snowymarbles · 01/04/2026 06:04

I don’t know if it’s too big but I have just bought a hybrid jazz and love it.

snowymarbles · 01/04/2026 06:05

Oh sorry that’s a self charging though - not sure if you are looking for that or a plug in hybrid.

Kalista018 · 01/04/2026 06:19

I’m actually researching this at the moment too! So far I’ve shortlisted the about:blank Toyota Yaris Cross, Hyundai Bayon, Fiat 600, and Mini Clubman. If I can stretch the budget, I’d consider the Toyota Prius as well. I’ve also heard really good things about Ford Puma.

I’m leaning towards an SUV/hatchback style. What’s on your shortlist?

Nomedshere · 01/04/2026 06:43

Had my yaris 18 years. I'll doe before it does

Statsquestion1 · 01/04/2026 06:46

I just got the Toyota Yaris cross and it is amazing!! I love it! Drives like a dream, it’s the perfect size. Cheap to run!

Yes. I absolutely love it.

Yes. I absolutely love it.

Congrats!! 🎉 Is it the Yaris or the Yaris Cross?

Any good deals around at the moment? I’m currently on an Aygo PCP but I’ll never do PCP again 😅 I think I’ll just go for HP next time.

Figcherry · 01/04/2026 07:03

I absolutely love my Yaris.
It’s a hybrid, drives beautifully but can be quite bossy with the lane assist. 😂

its a Yaris cross, I have no idea on deals unfortunately . I just went to my local dealer, they were great though.

We got a 3 month old Yaris so it was an amazing deal. A woman had bought it then her marriage broke up so she returned the car, awful for her but great for us.

Edited

The build quality of Toyota surpasses all the other marques on your shortlist.

I also have a Yaris cross and I love it. Bought used (about a year old when I bought it) and it's been fantastic. Toyotas are so solid and reliable.

NoodleQueen90 · 01/04/2026 07:14

It's not on your list but I LOVE my golf GTE! So cheap to run and very fun to drive. I got a good deal on an ex management one that was 4 months old.
If I was only doing city driving I'd go toyota as well but at motorway speeds I find them really noisy.

My first car was golf GTI! I had it for 10 years! Hence I would like to try different make I have never driven but I agree it's a great car!

Melsy88 · 01/04/2026 09:45

Also looking at this at the moment! I'd got it down to either a Yaris Cross or a Hyundai Kona.

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/04/2026 10:45

I have a year old Hyundai Konami, I’d highly recommend it - lots of space, economical and lots of bells and whistles.

Raven08 · 01/04/2026 11:02

Thanks so much for the responses.
I cannot bring myself to buy new (depreciation) but I'd like a fairly new low mileage car.
I think I'll go and trawl the local Toyota dealerships thanks!

Hi all,
Just wanted to pop back on and thank you for all the advice.
I bought my new car today!
I didn't go for a hybrid in the end as, after lots of research, I just don't do enough miles to make it cost efficient.
Its a Toyota Yaris 1.5 petrol automatic - it'll take some getting used to as I've driven manual for 30+ years.
🚗 😃

I have just gone to automatic after manual for 25 years of driving. I briefly had an automatic about 18 years ago and it was so bad it put me off for years to come.

my new one is amazing and wish I had changed earlier. Adaptive cruise control was a revelation on a 200+ mile trip recently.

abracadabra1980 · 02/05/2026 06:08

Following as also looking.

Thanks for coming back to tell us.

If you have a home charger, why are you looking at a hybrid rather than full electric? We bought a Cupra Born earlier in the year and it is brilliant. Over 300 miles range, good to drive and you will get a few months old one for a good price. If you want a smaller car, the Renault 5 or the Cupra Raval.
