If you have a home EV charger, do you have more than one electric car?

We have 1 EV and one petrol car, 2 cars definitely needed to travel to 2 different jobs.
Weve only had the EV and charger under a year, but I constantly think it makes sense now for both cars to be electric, yet money doesn’t stretch that far for us right now.

Might be a silly question, but so others only have 1 EV still?

We’ve just bought an electric, sold my older petrol car and I’ve inherited dhs newer petrol. To be honest I think we’ll stick with a ev and a petrol for a while as we do quite a lot of long distance travelling including ferry trips to Lake District and Scotland and petrol just seems easier for that.

I charge my car probably once a week maybe twice, one charger would definitely be enough for two cars. So it totally depends how you use it? If your one ev is normally constantly plugged in you might have an issue, what's your charging pattern like?

Unless that wasn't actually the question...?! We always had one of each because the infrastructure isn't quite good enough for me to feel comfortable on really long journeys, especially if the destination is remote.

Exactly the same situation...we have one electric and one petrol car. A charger attached to our house. When we get a new car, we will most probably get another electric

We’ve now got two electrics and one charger. We did have one of each, but then the petrol car got written off and we could get a much better electric second hand car for the money than petrol so went with it.
DH works from home or short commute so we have a short range one and then our main car is a longer range one, both don’t need charging every night. If both need charging then, the short range one gets put onto trickle charge.

We have 2 EV. We just takes it in turns to charge on the drive. They dont need charging every night so it works.

We have 2 electric cars and one charger. We don't ever really charge more than twice a week so it's never a problem. I can only really think of one time both cars were really low at the same time so I charged one at the rapid charger at the supermarket. It wasn't a problem.

Yes 2 cars, 1 charger and no probs in sharing.

Oh and we only charge our electric car once a week despite driving it every day.

My only concern with having two electric cars is what happens when we have a long journey...I don't want to sit around in car parks or service stations charging for ages

We have 3 EVs, one charger and one 'granny charger'. I have the longest commute so charge mine daily and the other two are trickle charged each night.

we have two electric and two petrol cars (electric for me and for one of my dd, petrol for dh and for one of my ds, other ds drives whichever of his siblings cars are free at the time).

I have 2 electric cars. It’s very doable with one charging point but my DH drives more than me so his is the main one and I get free electric at work so I never have to use the home charger. It would be easy though as you don’t need to charge everyday unless you are doing hundreds of miles a day.

We’ve got one of each but considering going to two electric when the petrol dies.

On the long journey point, we drove from the north to London not long ago in the electric and it wasn’t an issue. It has 240 mile max range. The range means by the point you’re stopping to charge you’re in need of a break anyways and we can go from 20% to 80% in about 20/30 mins on the fast chargers. Also worked out the cost and even paying for fast charging was cheaper than the fuel would have been at the motorway MPG that we would have got in the petrol.

We have a hybrid (which is when we got the charger installed) and last year we replaced our second car with an electric. So we have a hybrid and electric.

We have 2 EVs, we actually went electric on the main family car first, then the local commuting vehicle. As with other posters most of the time we only charge each car once or twice per week. On the odd occasion we need to charge both the smaller car gets charged using a 3pin plug charger.

Longer journeys were more hassle when we first got the car as there were fewer chargers about, but more are being installed all the time, still worth checking out options ahead of the journey though. Modern EVs and rapid chargers can add enough miles for 3+ hours driving in 20 - 30 minutes, we use that time to go to the toilet and maybe grab something to eat. On holiday we look for options to charge while we do something, many pubs and fast-food places have chargers, as do public carparks.

EVs are available that can do more than 300 or 400 miles on a single charge - most drivers don't do those distances often.

The savings we make on our regular journeys make a little extra planning when away from home worth it.

We have two electric cars. Most of the time we do short journeys so they never need charging at the same time unless we forget to think about it. We took one on a long trip this summer and last summer, from Surrey to NW Scotland, and had no problem charging at all. Fast chargers are so quick that it's done by the time you have finished a comfort break, and there were no issues with availability even in a remote area.

We do! However our EVs have very different ranges / purposes. Our 'main' one has a range of 360 miles so can go days without needing a charge. Our second one which my husband uses for his small city commute only has a range of 60 miles, so needs charging much more frequently. We've had this set up for nearly a year and not had a situation yet where one of us can't use a car due to charging (which is what I was a little worried about). Works for us and I definitely don't miss having to remember to go to the petrol station! 😅

Edited to add re the distance - we're going 300 miles away next week and all it's meant is making sure that where we stop for lunch has a fast EV charger, so will fully charge the car in the time that we have lunch and nip to the loo. We could make it on a single charge but then wouldn't have much contingency for exploring when we get there. Having an EV definitely hasn't stopped us from doing long journeys, but we are lucky enough to have one what can do a decent range (leased through DH work which keeps the cost down as we couldn't have afforded to buy one ourselves).

I have one electric and 1 petrol but I have not used petrol car for over 3 months. We only need 1 car most of the time but 4 or 5 times a year we both need to be in opposition parts of country so keep petrol car for that. Also I think if DS needs to borrow it if his car is in for a repair then he's on insurance.

One electric (not the biggest range in the world as it's an older model) and one petrol. Petrol is meant to be the main car, and the EV was mine for work commuting (I work community healthcare so I'm driving around lots) - however we only really use the petrol car for long trips to grandparents etc these days.
