Anyone love their PHEV estate/SUV?

Currently running two cars and would really like to go down to one: a 2021 Hyundai Kona EV used for the day to day and a 2013 Vauxhall Astra estate - bought in cash as a banger 10 years ago, and must be practically worthless by now which we mainly use for holidays and visiting ILs in Cornwall regularly.

Have two teen DSs who are only getting larger by the year, and a giant golden retriever so we are getting really quite squeezed in the Kona, but don't love the carbon emissions or the £70/week in petrol it would be if the Astra was our only car.

A plug-in hybrid estate or SUV would seem to me to combine the best of all worlds and allow us to go down to one car, while potentially gaining more space for the growing DSs and their growing piles of sports/music kit they haul around.

Does anyone have any words of advice, or a model they absolutely LOVE that they'd recommend?

Currently looking at these models, if anyone has any insight:

  • Skoda Superb estate
  • Skoda Kodiaq
  • Volkswagon Tayron
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Hyundai Santa Fe

We have a Skoda Kodiaq sport line and we love it! 1 4YO and a lab. 4YO car seat is extended rear facing and quite big so we needed more space from the xc40 we had before. My husband couldn't sit infront of the car seat as zero leg room. He can in the Kodiaq. Boot is massive and we get about 60 miles from the plug in which does all our gym, town, nursery runs. We've only filled the car up about 3 times since having it in April.

@Poobs2022 thank you!! It sounds ideal - 60 miles on the plug in would cover a week of the day to day driving very comfortably. I'll definitely test drive the two Skodas then.

It sounds like you have similar considerations as we do re space/dog/driving patterns!

I love my Santa Fe , we have 4 kids , all over 5’6 and my husband is giant. Super comfy. ( the new model is really lush but we have a 3 year old one )
