Which estate car? 308SW or Octavia?

As the title says really! I want/need an estate car for space on family trips but don't know enough about cars to know which might be a better choice.

I've got about £8k and can get a 2017/18 Peugeot 308SW with around 60-70k miles for this price or an Octavia estate but the mileage is always so much higher, around 90k+

I don't know what's best! Perhaps I'm overthinking?

I'm not super 'into' cars and have a 2013 Yaris atm and I'm only bothering to upgrade because it's just too small. I thought I'd prefer as new as I could afford so that it would last longer?

Advice from people who know a bit more than me would be appreciated!

Thank you.

Ps. Not interested in an SUV, no shade to anyone who has one I just don't want one so wide and high. Personal preference!

I have an Octavia

They are very good though wish I had the more powerful engine with 6 gears as I do lots of motorways driving and it never quite settles down with 5 gears

Apart from that it's very good

I've never been in a situation where my car could not do something I wanted it to do

Holiday luggage is fine, and it is a comfy car

Not sure about the Peugeot, I did look at the 3008 once but the cost of the cam belt replacement seemed high compared to other cars

Octavia all day long.
They are work horses, just keep going.
I've had both and would snap your hand off for a Octavia again😀

We are on our 4th Octavia in 20 years. They have all been reliable (3 x TDi, and now the iV) sturdy workhorse cars, that have coped with everything growing kids could throw at them . We’ve only had so many because they have been work lease cars and changed them every 4 years. If we’d owned them, I’m sure we’d still have had them, but driven each one longer.

Octavia! I loved mine. Reliable, comfortable, loads of boot space. Great for long motorway driving.

Sprig1 · 07/08/2025 06:57

Octavia, definitely.

Kidspartytroll · 07/08/2025 10:15

Octavia it is then! Since they're quite reliable would a relatively high mileage 90-100k with FSH be a good shout? Thinking 2018-2020 model.

I can't really afford a lower mileage one! But could afford a lower mileage Peugeot. This is the dilemma!

Thanks again!

That mileage would be no issue at all. Barely run in.

I've got an octavia vrs, it's been amazing for the last 11 years

Yep. Loads of the taxi drivers round my way have Octavia’s as they just keep going and are super reliable. One I chatted to on a recent airport trip said his car had done 200K without a single serious issue.
