Part needed to fix car under warranty “not available”

Hi,

I bought a used car from a main dealer garage 7 months ago and last month a part of the engine broke which has meant that it’s been stuck in their garage for 6 weeks. The part is covered under the manufacturer warranty but they haven’t been given a delivery date or even confirmation they can get a replacement part. Basically they said “weeks to months”.

i was wondering what could be my next steps? They’ve offered me a courtesy car at a fee of £25 a day and won’t go lower.

i want to contact the ombudsman for a refund on the car but I'm not sure I’ll be successful as the dealer wouldn’t have known about the issue at the point of sale, and they have agreed to get it fixed and as its under the manufacturer warranty and not their warranty I’m not sure I can go from the missold angle.

Help!

A lot of OEM parts on back orders. Ask the garage in writing to temporarily fix the fault using new non-OEM, and then to replace when the new OEM is available.
