Electric car buying What to choose

We are biting the bullet and looking at second hand electric cars as need something safe and roomy and reliable for motorway driving to our nearby city and my Fiat 500 was not the car for that.

We are looking at the VW ID4 Pro as has battery range over 250+ but other than that we are clueless.

Has anyone got tales of happy family sized EV motoring for me to consider other makes and models please?

I have a Volvo X30 in peak conditions a full charge will do about 300 miles.

it is fairly roomy, pretty much drives itself.

I adore my Hyundai Kona EV! It's not gigantic but it fits our family of 4 just fine and it's easy to park, great range, and reliable.

If second hand I’d say you need to be very careful about the life expectancy of the battery and well-informed about replacement cost. It can run to £7,000+ plus.

Just generally, be wary about depreciation. If your battery gives up your vehicle may be practically worthless till replaced at a relatively high cost.
Having said this , friends also have a Kona EV and are very happy with it.

If it’s your first electric maybe lease for a year or 2 and see how you get on?

I had a Seat Mii EV until some silly woman drove into it and wrote it off. My son has a Seat Mii and loves it, I have traded up to a Renault Zoe is it’s fantastic. Will do 200+ in the summer and around 170 in the winter. Be careful with Zoe’s though that they aren’t battery lease or you’ll have an extra payment each month. Also look for the bigger screen as then you’ll have connected services, he smaller screen doesn’t have this.

sorry just re-read your post, the Seat Mii would be far too small. If you want big, then consider an MG, loads of room and decent range. My neighbour has the 5 and wouldn’t swap it for anything.
