My friend is seriously ill with anorexia at the moment, and while she's struggling slowly back to health she has absolutely no energy. She's been pretty much bedridden for months, and her muscles have wasted/been consumed. She can manage to walk a few yards with sticks, but a wheelchair would enable her to get out and about a bit.
Her community support workers were suppposed to be getting her a chair, but three months in have not yet achieved this particular target.
I think a chair that needs someone else to push it, rather than being pushed by the user, would be better, as she has a tendency to over-exercise anyway as part of her illness and a self-propelling one might be too much temptation.
She was given an old one by a relative, but it's a bit rusted and now the seat has ripped to shreds. Neither of us has much money, but it's her birthday soon and I found this chair on ebay. It wouldn't be used for long walks or anything, as she's a bit social-phobic atm (and self-conscious about the naso-gastric tube she has fitted) but it would be handy when getting her to and from therapy appointments and so on.
Has anyone any thoughts about it? It looks a bit unsupporting to me but she wouldn't be in it all day, every day.
