Sit in carer service?

Hi everyone, I had an old account here a few years ago and needed some help and knew these forums were always the most helpful.

So I;m currently caring for my 82 year old mother, she was in the hospital a long time last year and came out of it and needed more support.

She's OK getting around on her own and was signed off the physio as she can get herself around safely, however she's always been independent and done a lot before last year and always wants to be cleaning etc.

If left alone, she would do too much and end up falling or hurt and I don't like to leave her on her own, it's also a worry as certain things happened to her in hospital, so don't want her unsupervised.

However, I would like to go out sometimes and had heard about sit in carers or something? That kind of thing would be great, so does anyone have any experience with them?

Also, what hours do they do? Do they do evening/nights? My daughter before any of this had bought us tickets to a show of an evening and I'd like to possibly be able to go if possible.

Thank you for any advice.

You’ll probably get more response on the elderly parents board.

Does she have capacity to understand she can’t be getting up and cleaning etc when she’s on her own? If so- have a talk to her!

falls pendant alarms are great as she can press that if needed.

you can get carers to sit whenever you want if you’re paying privately but I doubt you’d get social services to fund based on what ‘might’ happen so bear that in mind.

Age UK offer a respite sitting service for carers which sounds like what you want. It is a paid for service but it’s quite reasonable. I think you need a referral and an assessment.
They also do a volunteer befriending service where a volunteer will visit and chat which might help you too.
Full details are on their website.
