I have been put on a reserve list until jan 2025. is there a chance to be offered a job? Thanks

I personally wouldn’t turn down any other roles based on being on the reserve list, but I am aware of there being a high turnover of staff in some Home Office departments so you may be lucky.

An ex colleague was placed on a reserve list, then offered a post, took months to get the required security clearance and then left after barely 6 weeks in the job.

The post wasn’t particularly well suited to him. It was some sort of case officer, which ultimately made decisions on whether someone could stay in the UK or not. I think the number of cases allocated to him were quite high and needing to hit targets just caused him too much stress.

I agree you shouldn't turn other jobs down op. How likely you are to be offered a role depends on which part of the HO you're on the reserve list for. There isn't one reserve list for the whole Department as each Directorate runs their own.

I'd still be applying for other roles while you wait.
