Caring for elderly relatives? Supercarers can help

Carer's Allowance and Universal Credit

I am a full time carer for my partner. I also work as a self employed computer specialist.

Carer's Allowance is deducted from our Universal Credit payment. Is there any actual advantage to having Carer's Allowance?

We have a CEA card for the cinema. I think I need Carer's Allowance for that. Otherwise, it has only caused us problems.

Am I missing something?

You do not need carers allowance for a CEA card .
Carers allowance on your UC claim will pay your national insurance contributions.

The only advantage is getting the national insurance paid. Do you already have carers element in your UC? You can always stop the CA claim and instead do a claim for carers credit, this doesn’t give you any money but does ensure that you get NI credits.
