Hi - my mum is immobile and lives alone. She has a full care package via the council but she self funds (though this is capped) and it includes 4x day calls and 2 overnight care calls.
The company she has works on the basis of 2 carers having 6 clients and they visit for all 4 calls - all 4 hrs apart - this means medication and personal care is regular, however it also means ‘normal’ hours for meals and bed can be odd. My mum likes to be up early so has the first call at 7am putting her onto 11am lunch, 3pm tea, 7pm bed.
My mother despises this with a passion and is very angry all the time about going to bed early and the tea call. However she likes seeing same carers all day, and unusually there are many male carers which she also likes.
I think she’d prefer family do it, but there’s only me even close and it’s still unfortunately a 20-30 min drive plus I work full time and normal commitments- and not sure I could be tied for my own sanity, though maybe I should - my mum does say my work is busy though feel she maybe hopes I’d retire or reduce hours sometime 🤣
I’ve suggested a private carer adding onto the package but not sure how I’d go about this? How many would I need, what responsibilities would I have as employer? If anyone has advice?
I don’t think I can change company via council for this, and don’t think it would be hugely better if I could but has anyone done this?
I have LPOA and manage her finances, shopping, home, am first contact obviously for electric tripping or anything - and just try to make her life as nice as can be though maintaining my own life at my home.
