My 82yo aunt needs a home help...

How do you go about organising that kind of thing? She lives next ddor to her daughter but she's out at work all day and isn't doing much to help her mum. Her house is getting very dirty (she won't have visitors anymore) and she is starting to neglect herself too.

I have tried the Dept. of health website but it is not very helpful. She lives in Hampshire. Who do you contact?

Try your local social services as they can arrange a visit & assessment. However if she won't have visitors would she let them in?

Could her GP go & have a chat?

We had his problem with DH's granny for a while. She agreed to have help (could look after herself but had not been eating or cleaning)A home help came in every day, laid a fire for the evening,did a bit of washing & cleaning & made something for her lunch & left supper ready to re-heat. Trouble was Granny kept saying she didn't need them & would politely ask them not to come again!(Bless her)

They'd ring us up & say cheerfully " we've been sacked again" so we'd reinstate them!

It wasn't free we had to pay something towards the service but ot wasn'tmuch & if you're on benefits you can get help I think. Just depends on your council.

Hae you a local branch of Help the Aged who you could ring for advice?

There will be a community team for her area. Have you tried contacting her GP practice? Maybe an OT assessment would be useful, she would then get access to all care available to her in her area.

It's hard isn't it? I live in Cyprus and worry about my 80 year old nan back in the UK
