Hi, i've just started out as a home carer and usually do a 3-4hr shift three or four times a week.
Just wanted to know, does it get any easier seing how ill/dissabled people are, especially the ones who have terminal illnesses.
Just got back from my shift this morning and just had to have a good cry.
Could just be that i'm coming down with a cold, but today it just bothered me so much.
All the other carers say i should develop a thick skin but at the same time they want you to be caring.
Have any of you other carers gone through this? or am i just a soft cow?

hiya

i am not an employed carer, but am carer for my husband. I have met a lot of peole who are very disabled due to the area i live in (warden assisted bungalow scheme) and the amount of time we spend at the hospital. It does get easier in some respects, but harder in others.

well when you are a carer for your own child
you are just expected to get on with it
and to toughen up and put up with all kinds of shit from the authorities
you also have to fight for EVERYTHING

all i can say is if the job is affecting you that much i would personally give it up as you have a choice whether to persue that career or not
good luck
