Financial Pitfalls of Placing Father in Care

Hello,

I wonder if anyone who has had similar experience could advise me.

My father has suffered form dementia and other illnesses for a long time.

My mother is now unable to cope, and my father will require full time care in a home.

I have just started looking at the financial arrangements that will have to be made - the process seems very complicated!

I am just wondering if there are any common mistakes that people make when undertaking these arrangements - I do not wish to give my mother incorrect advice that will make her financially worse off (and may end in her home being sold prematurely).

Thanks for any help.

How difficult for you all - I am sorry your father's so ill.

I don't know what your parents' specific circumstances are, so it's a bit difficult to advise, but a really good place to start is usually the Age UK (Used to be Age Concern) website. They produce lots and lots of really useful advice leaflets on the financial aspects of care. Otherwise, you can call them and speak to one of their advisers I think.

Thank you Narmada for your help - the site you mention is excellent, and packed with useful information.

Best Regards
