My dd is 2.6 and in a forward facing car seat, I have to use a two door car for a while and need to know if she can go on the front passenger seat and if so does the airbag still need to be turned off?

The car does have rear seats so I could put her in the back but I have a back problem so it is going to be difficult to get her in and out. Also I am paranoid that she would be trapped in the back if, god forbid, we were involved in a crash.

Much safer to turn the airbag off if using the front seat; she's not big enough to take the blow of it. Not ideal to put them in front at all, but I realise you may have to (mine ride in front as a "treat").

I expect the carseat anoraks will come along to say more.

Move the passenger seat as far back as it will go as well. That will help in case of an accident.

Hi there
The advice that I was given by the Essex In Car Safety Centre was as follows.

  1. Only put your child in front seat if necessary.
  2. Push the passenger seat as far back as it will go.
  3. Turn off the air bag if you can.
My car has back doors, so I did not ask them whether back seat is still safer, even if you have no doors. I would expect that it is still much safer than front, however, even if there is no door.

Best wishes
Suzy
