Britax Kidfix/other 2-3 seats - what to do?

Our plans are moving on since yesterday! I hadn't appreciated the crossover in sizes between Groups 1 and 2 - ie that DD (2.5, but weighing 14.75 kg) can stay in her Group 1 seat until 18kg but could go up a seat at 15kg.

So... her brother has outgrown his infant seat and needs a Group 1 seat. My husband is keen to stick with what we know - Isofix and/or Maxi Cosi - as far as possible, so not keen on the Kiddy Pro seats for groups 1-3 I've showed him, so the thinking is either we buy another group 1 seat, or a 2-3 seat for DD and he gets her old one.

At so nearly 15kg, would you be happy to put your child in a Group 2 seat? And do you know if there are any height requirements as she's more like the height of a 2/3 year old than a 4 year old as the guidelines suggest they should be when they change seats?

I wouldnt move your dd until she was heavy enough for the next stage seat - we did have to move ds at that age but he was 18kgs and too heavy/tall for the stage 1 seat. What age/weight is your ds? He is not too big for the infant carrier until his head is over the top or he is too heavy for it (normally around 29lbs)

I wouldn't put a 2.5yo in a group 2 seat unless they were huge, and certainly wouldn't put one who was under 15kg.

mmm, i wouldn't put a 2 yo in a group 2 seat with just a seatbelt, it's much safer to have them in a 5 point belt for as long as possible. i would buy another group 1 probably for your ds and leave your dd in her seat until she is 18kgs. have you thought about a rf group 1 seat for your ds? www.rearfacing.co.uk has more info.

I'd buy your DS his own seat, and leave your DD where she is until she has outgrown her own seat. She is safest in a 5 point harness until she is over the weight limit for that - ie in excess of 18kg. Until 15kg, she won't activate the normal seatbelt either

Thanks all for your responses. Sounds like a new Group 1 seat for DS is the way ahead (and yes, his head is now poking out of the top of his 0+ seat).

NicM - I do know about rearfacing seats and that website thanks - I drove to the Essex car safety centre from Surrey to try them with DD but unfortunately the only way we can fit one in our car is to take the front seat out of use - not practical with two children, two tall adults and it being our only car.
