Maxi Cosi Pearl (vs. Maxi Cosi Priorifix)

Has anyone got a Maxi Cosi Pearl? What is your opinion (comfort, usability)? Have you seen any safety results yet?

Just tossing up between this and the Priorifix but can't find much information on the Pearl(presumably because it has only been recently released)

Measure how tall the back is we had a tobi and our little one grew out of it so we had to by another harness seat as she wasn't big enough to go in anything else. Which are doing another car seat thing in June.

hi expat2 have you considered rear facing? www.rearfacing.co.uk i have 2 rf seats in the back of my vw golf (britax two way elite and KISS) and have been very happy with both.

have used the maxi cosi priori sps in the past and was going to go for the priorifix for ds before i heard of rf seats as i had previously used the cabrio as a baby seat and had always used the maxi cosi seats at work.

I would do extended RF except we will only be in Europe a short while longer before we head back to Australia. Having looked into it, my personal view is that the ISOFIX seats are safer that Aussie seats so I'd rather get one here and take it back. Can't take back an 'extended' RF one as they don't have any in Australia, they aren't legal and so will stick out like a sore thumb (fines and loss of points off licence....absolutely ridiculous consequence of having your child in a safer seat). A FF ISOFIX is less obvious.

then i would probably go with the priorifix seat. you should start a rf campaign in australia!

The pearl is a smaller seat than the priorifix plus it will also work out more expensive as you will need to buy the family fix base as well.

ISOFIX is no safer than a correctly fitted belted seat.

the reason they come out better in tests is because it is impossible to fit them incorrectly.

Well according to Maxi Cosi around 80% of belt fitted car seats in the UK are fitted incorrectly in cars - i would personally go for an ISOFix seat/with base (i have one) as they are simple to install - CORRECTLY - and they can removed in less than 30secs when they are not needed.

I use the Maxi Cosi Family Fix base with the pearl (which is a brilliant car seat) and the base has lights and sounds to let you know when the car seat is correctly fitted (or incorrectly fitted).

I know that the Maxi Cosi brand can be a tad expensive, but when I thought about it, i can't really put a price on my baby boy's safety/life - esp. in the event of a crash.

I know a very good online retailer who stocks the Maxi Cosi brand if anyone is interested?

that's as maybe, although i'd be interested to hear where they get the statistics for that from

but the fact still remains that a belted seat fitted correctly is as safe, so just follow the instructions and you'll be fine! get it checked by a car safety place if you're worried you can't follow instructions

by the by, John Lewis had product recalls all over the place in bluewater today for the maxi cosi family fix base. so i wouldn't be getting one of those anyway!!!

I have huge issues with Dorel in general, so would never buy maxi cosi anyway, but hey ho! that's my own gripe

me too thisisyesterday! funny they never did come baclk to that thread! i was going to say that a belted car seat is just as safe as long as it is fitted correctly.

I think the product recall has made up my mind for me!

Not sure they have ISOFix in oz

They don't have ISOFIX legally in Australia, although a lot of cars have it anyway (rather than produce different cars for Australia). They have just done a big review of car seat rules and made some changes, although they decided not to implement ISOFIX. Apparently it would have cost parents too much money to change over the car seats??

The Priorifix can be attached with either ISOFIX or seatbelt which has swung the decision finally for us.
