Hope some mums will find this helpful.

When your infant carrier is in car, wir=th little one in, please take note of the following tips.

1.Keep Carry handle up at all times as this can act as a anti-roll bar in an accident and is easier to move in an emergency.

  1. Keep hood up as this protects little one from broken glass and sunshine.

Suzy - Not true some manufacturers specifically say to have the handle down (see page 10/17) or even forward (see page 5/24 for illustrations).

Before fitting any car seat please read the instructions and do as they say - they all differ and what works for one seat may even be deadly if repeated in another seat.

I agree it depends on car seat. Just had to install incorrectly installed Jane car seats with my last clients. Mother care had told them wrong.

Jane car seat has handle right up against seat.

I've used Maxi Cosi as that is handle above.

And a Graco and the handle had to be behind.

Very important to read and understand the instructions.

Yes definitely - some handles can shatter in an impact, showering the baby with plastic shards. Only seats which are designed to have the handle up should have them up.

If it is not stated in the instructions or you have lost the original instructions, check what position the handle is in on the little pictoral instructions on the sticker on the side/back of the carseat itself.
