My dd (30mth) is rapidly growing out of her britax (9mth-4yr) as she is quite big built. We're going away next month so would like to get her a new seat as the car journey is quite long. Have looked at the babystart ones in argos but don't know much abou them. Due to car we can't have any maxi cosi ones as they don't fit. Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated x

hi,

what weight is your daughter?

it is safest to use the seat for as long as possible and they are more comfortable for younger children and they also recline which is good on longer journeys!

they are too big height wise apparently when the tops of their ears are above the shell of the seat iykwim.

she weighs about 16 kg now but she is really uncomfortable in her current car seat and hates being in it so think i really need to change. the one we're looking at is a group 1-2-3 so will be absolutely fine as suitable from 9mths

The babystart seats in Argos are made by Nania and I would not recommend these at all. We used to sell these and found the quality so poor we stopped dealing with them. I would say have a look at the Britax Evolva 123 it is more expensive but in my opinion how can you put a price on safety?

Have you thought about the Kiddy Comfort Pro (or Mamas & Papas Cybex Pallas) - they have an impact shield which is different to a 5 point harness (it is actually safer) but they seem to be more universal than other seats. Then from 18kg they use the normal adult seatbelt. They look very well padded and comfortable, and the side impact protection is good (the headrest moves as the child grows which I think is great)

If you have a Mamas & Papas shop near you you should be able to go in and try one out, as it's so different to a 5-point harness your DD will either love it or hate it.

Cybex Pallas on offer at M&P now by the way - £99 which is very cheap as they are usually £160.

Oh, out of stock on the website though - hopefully in stock somewhere near you and you can get a real bargain! Sorry to post 3 times in a row
