Head hugger

You know in rear facing car seats for new babies they have the head hugger thing?

Well, my ds (12 weeks) is struggling to be comfortable in it. I have to wedge his head in it. He's not crying or anything when he's in it. He just looks squashed!

Would it be ok to take it out or is it ill advised as such a young age?

Ds was in his for ages but i think I took DD's out ata bout 8/10 weeks as it was such a squash to get her in it.
