Maxi Cosi Priori XP vs Mamas & Papas Pro Tech

Anyone used either one and have a strong opinion?

Basically these are the only two car seats that fit our car (apart from the car manufacturer's own brand one which costs 500 quid and is apparently crap).

My daughter's already a year old but a 9th centile and we kept her in a rear facing seat for a recent holiday to France but her head is sticking out too far as she's long and I think although she's not yet 9kg she needs to go into a forward facer.

We don't use the car for town but do regularly visit parents about 2-3 hours away and are planning another driving holiday, so comfort is important.

Just to add, I would keep her in a rear facer if I could because it is safer, but her head is really extending too far out now. Our car won't take a bigger rear facing seat either.

I have the maxi cosi priori xp. I like it. It fits dd well even now at 3.2, it is sturdy, does not wobble when fit like some i found. I like that is is moveable backwards and forwards so she can sleep on journeys (which might be relevant to you if you use it for jorneys too) without her head tilting forward onto her chest.

The only things i am not so keen on are that the covers are not easily removable for cleaning, and it is heavy if you need to move cars a lot. We don't, luckily, so its not that much of a problem but bear in mind if you need to.

I dont have a strong opinion as such - just a little one! We have a priori xp, and its in our 2nd car. Reason for this is that a) its a whopping seat, but feels really safe, and I think if our punto was in an accident he'd stand a good chance in that seat! The other reason its in that car though is that b)the recline is a bit pants. I have a britax first class in the 'big' car which has a much better recline. Oh c) I've had problems in the past with the seatbelt in the xp getting twisted and stuck in the buckles. (i.e. it gets 'folded' in two and lodged) It will come out but it takes lots of fiddling and is the last thing you need when you have a stroppy toddler on your hands.

hi dorris out of the two i would go for maxi cosi. have had prioris in the past but have now gone rf. you sound like you would like a rf seat. are you sure none of the seats will fit in your car? what car do you have? i could ask on rf website if anyone has your car or someoone i know does and could check which seat they have if that would help? i have had mine in some v small cars and can still use the front seat. a clio being the smallest i think?! hth

oh and the reason i chose the prioris was that they had came out highest in the safety tests at the time.

Thanks -- we got a Maxi Cosi in the end. I believe that (and the Mamas and Papas Pro Tech) is the only high-rated one that fits in a Porsche 911 (yes, I know it's not a family car )

My daughter loved trying it out, so hoping it's a success for the few car journeys we do.
