recaro young sport which report

has anyone got the which report on the recaro young sport? i want to use it as a high back booster as it is slim (need to fit 3 car seats in a row in our car), and other slim car seats don't fit

It only scored 56% in the tests and this is what they had to say

"This car seat from Recaro caters for a wide range of heights thanks to an adjustable back rest, but it doesn't offer the same level of protection that a good seat dedicated to a smaller size range would do.

The back rest can be elongated to move the harnesses up as your child grows. The seat is easy to use and install, and has clear instructions and safety warnings, so there's not much risk of fitting it incorrectly.

It provides a good level of comfort for the child, and the seat covers are machine washable at 30 degrees.

It scored a three out of five for crash test results.

i only want to use it as a high back booster, not a group 1 seat, so i wonder if it would get a higher rating as that, it seems to have a lot of protection at the sides, seems better than some of the cheaper high back boosters i've seen. i haven't got a great deal of choice as fitting 3 in a row. have to get the best that will fit, so has to be narrow

hi mollynp, i have the maxi cosi rodi sps(not the xr) which is the most narrow one accrording to the in car safety centre. i wanted to fit it with 2 rf group 1's. i think maxi cosi always do well in the tests.

i know the recaro didn't get a great review on which, but it fits in either side of the car (with britax two way elite in the middle) perfectly.
i thought that the kiddy comfort pro was going to work, but the seat belt guide is too narrow and so the seatbelt gets stuck, not retracting back when my son leans back after leaning forward. that one got good reviews in which, and it works in the middle, but not the sides, and i desperately want to keep my boys seperate in the car!
nobody seems to sell the maxi cosi rodi sps (only the xr) locally for me to try, and the recaro seems to have good side protection when you look at it (though not great in which report), so might get that, as every other seat i have tried doesn't fit!
apparently which test all seats in one car (i think is a vauxhall astra, though not sure) and as not all seats fit all cars well, the seats that get the best results will be the ones that fit that car the best (as well as being good in themselves) and seats that are also good but don't fit that car are going to get poorer results!

yes ikwym about not fitting. if you're happy with it and it fits get it. better one that fits than one that doesn't.

Mollymp - I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but we bought a recaro young sport for our ds, but I then found out about rf for him (he is a little 16 month old). We literally used the recaro on one journey before finding out about rf, and since that point it has sat under our stairs in a huge plastic bag in the box that our besafe then came in! I'm in two minds whether to sell it, or whether to keep it for when he's older, but part of me thinks that if someone wants it then I should sell it, and cross the bridge of an older seat for him when he gets there (i'm partly thinking that by the time he's out of his rf, technology may have changed so much by then anyway, and I'll be longing for the safest option that is available at that point!). Anyway, let me know if it might be of interest to you on a second hand basis?

sorry i read this after i bought them. the insurance paid for the seats anyway as i'd been in an accident. definately the right thing moving him rearfacing. my sister has just moved her two year old rearfacing after i nagged her for 6 months to do so! my daughter will be rearfacing until she'd at least 4. my sons weren't, as though i knew that you could buy them from the shop in milton keynes, i didn't know just how much safer in an accident they are, so i just bought the safest forward facing seat as that was easier. luckily i wasn't involved in any serious accidents, so all ok!
