Car seats

Changed my mind and want Kiddy Infinity Pro instead - any advice?

I went a bit mad when DS was about 5 months old and decided I had to buy his stage 1 carseat RIGHT NOW, so did some very hurried research and concluded that I wanted the Britax First Class (Group 0 + 1) because I was paranoid he was going to grow out of his infant seat really young, and also, I thought that it was possible to use it rearfacing for toddlers as well (it's not safe to do this, I don't know what I was thinking).

Anyway he is now 10 months and has a way to go before he hits the height and weight limits of his infant seat, and so I'm thinking the Britax might not be the best choice, as by the time he goes into it, it will be a standard FF carseat which if I was getting that, I preferred the Maxi Cosi Tobi. So we have got this brand new Britax First Class seat sitting in its box in DS' bedroom and I can't return it, because I bought it from Toys R Us who have a no returns on carseats policy, even if it's in the packaging still. Also I have made a very small hole in the plastic wrap because I wanted to read the instructions which were inside .

Anyway, I have been idly reading things since and have absolutely now set my heart on the Kiddy Infinity Pro. I don't drive myself (learning soon) and it looks much lighter and easier to move between cars, the colours are so much nicer, and it looks a lot safer than a 5-point harness without getting into expensive and huge (and having to be permanently installed) RF toddler seats. And it is in our price range - except that DP is annoyed because we spent £100 on the Britax which I now don't want!

I'm not sure what to do now. I could try to sell on the Britax, maybe on ebay, to get some of the money back, do you think that would be ok? And then I have heard that Mamas & Papas are bringing out a seat like the Kiddy Infinity in September, any idea whether this is likely to make the price go up (by making it more popular) or down (with competition etc)?

Argh, decisions!!

If you are swapping between cars the kiddy seat is brill. I only started using it due to having to get a replacement seat when dd was 2 so no idea how it is for a wee one.

I think though if i was using it for a smaller one I would probably always use it in reclined position with the footrest out a bit.

The tobi weighs a ton and it not a universal fit. If the seat belt clippy in bits are high it will have buckle crunch.

Sell your first class - local paper?

Bertie- We have one for DD and shes 12mths.
Shes also pretty slim at 19.5 lbs and has no problems with the slipping down.

I havent tried the recline on it yet but DD doesnt have any trouble sleeping in it.

I too have heard about the M&P one but doubt it will be much cheaper.. if anything i find M&P stuff abit overpriced.

I was given a britax first class from a friend whilst pregnant but found it too big for my car leaving hardly anyroom to get her in and out. Plus it needing to be FF at a certain weight and i had hoped DD to be RF for longer. Anyway like you went for the kiddy being the safest FF.

Thanks, am feeling more confident about buying it the more I read. I am so glad to have found a carseat which ticks all the boxes as I was beginning to think it was impossible

Does anyone know if you can put the kiddy infinity pro carseat in the front seat with the airbag off. It is easier to have my 8 mth old in the front seat for long journeys lasting 2 to 3 hours

Hi april, I have the comfort pro and it says that it's fine in any seat with the right seat-belt & without airbags, so I imagine the infinity is the same. We use ours in the front quite often.

Bertie - I hope you are pleased with it - we just love our Kiddi seat! My sister has a Tobi and the comfort pro is just in a different league for taking in and out of cars. I just wrote up my in-depth review of the comfort pro on this website. I was totally worried about buying it before hand so I maybe went a bit overboard in my in-depthness!
The nice thing about my sister's Tobi is that it's a lot higher up so my neice has a much better view of everything, although the kiddy seats are brilliant for looking to the side.
I was almost tricked by the Britax rear facing thing too!
All the best!
Sarah
