Car seat carrier - do babies continue to sleep without waking up?

I’ve got a joie 360 for my first two kids and now having a third, I was thinking to get a maxi cosi pebble mainly for the sake of if they are sleeping, they can continue to sleep? However just wanted to check with people who has those car seat whether it’s true they will continue to sleep when transferred in and out of car?

Oh they absolutely do, it's brilliant! I would get a longer lasting seat than the Pebble, though. Avionaut Cosmo or Britax Baby-Safe Core are both bigger and fit on the same pushchairs as the Maxi Cosi seats.

I had my DC longer ago when the advice was that if they had been in the seat less than 2 hours then you could leave them to sleep in it up to a period of 2 hours total time in seat. (By the time DC2 was born it was 30 mins if the baby is under 4 weeks old). Now I understand this advice has been replaced with one which says when you come into the house, you should take the baby out of the seat and put them on a firm flat surface like a cot. IME if we ever did that, they would wake up. We only ever transferred them if we had been driving in the evening and it was already bedtime when we got home, and they almost always would wake up and want feeding. So I suppose the real answer is how closely you want to follow the guidance - it does exist for a reason, but at the same time I feel like sitting in the car waiting for them to finish a nap vs bringing the seat into the house for them to finish a nap is equally risky in terms of sleep position and doing the former is sometimes the survival/practical option.

If I thought they were likely to sleep for an hour or two more, I'd try to transfer. If I thought they would wake up within the next 20 mins or so, I'd leave them in the seat. In between that it would probably be a case by case basis.

Depends on the baby, because my baby was born with FOMO and woke up immediately or within five minutes of moving pretty much every time! No bringing a car seat in with sleeping baby here. We stopped taking the car seat out of the car really early based on that because he always woke up anyway, and the angle of carrying a car seat hurt my hypermobile elbows. Mine is both very nosy and low sleep needs so maybe that’s why.

I only had one that you could remove from the car with my third DC, and I don't think he ever stayed asleep for more than about five or ten minutes after being taken out of the car, and often just woke up. However, it was still fairly useful if we were driving somewhere and I just needed to nip out for ten minutes or so, so I could just go from car to pram to car again without lots of unstrapping etc. But I certainly didn't feel that I'd really missed out not having one before.

I think it's really baby dependant though, as I know people that loved them and their babies slept on for ages.

Other than safety, I would also look carefully at weights, as the one I had was really heavy. Oh, and it was a lie flat out of the car one which made it much more useful/ made me feel better about him being in it when out of the car.

As per PP I think the advice has changed but yes DS and DD would both reliably stay asleep in their car seats when carried into the house - as did most
of my 8 strong NCT group babies. However, it’s definitely baby dependent and some wake up the minute you stop the car!
