Car seat recommendations for a tall three year old over 20kg

Hello,

I have a big 3 year old who has just hit the 20kg mark in weight and therefore exceeded his car seat weight limit.

any recommendations on what to go for next? I imagine he’s too young for a booster but his weight would probably match one so I’m a little lost.

Yes, you're right not to want him on a booster just yet.

You basically have the rear facing options - Axkid seats, Avionaut Sky, Britax Max Safe Pro (or Safeway M). These are the safest option but pricey. Some go up to 23/25kg depending on the seat, some up to 36kg (max 125cm height).

Or forward facing there are a few with harness up to 25kg. Joie Bold R (old regulation - the i-Bold has a lower limit), Joie i-Irvana Max, Cozy n Safe Hudson R44, Cozy n Safe Excalibur i-size. All of these convert to high back booster later on. My preferred one is probably the i-Irvana Max.

I have a cosatto all-in-all 360, goes up to 18kg rear facing, then up to 36kg forward facing.

This wouldn’t be a great option for the OP as the harness is already outgrown, so it would need to be used FF with the seatbelt - not ideal for a 3 year old.
