Using Joie Bold with seat belt.

I have just started to use the seat belt for my Grandson. Has anyone else found the seat belt is hard to run through the guides? Once belted in, if my Grandson leans forward then back, the seat belt stays loose.

Do you have it fully into the guide? It sort of tucks around and into place. We haven't had a problem with it coming loose.

Yes. The seat belt is in the guide correctly. When I strap my little one in I have to physically pull the horizontal strap tight. It is quite hard to do. If he leans forward it doesn't just go back as it should do. The seat belt retracts ok when not being used with the seat.

I've heard this before with this seat and it seems to be a compatability issue with certain cars, and something which happens more when the headrest is in lower positions. How old and how tall is your grandson? If he is under about 110cm, it might be best to install the seat using seatbelt, isofix and top tether, and use the 5 point harness to strap him in instead. This can be used up to 25kg if it is the older Joie Bold with the red seatbelt guides.

If he is taller and/or you are keen to use the seatbelt mode, check the headrest is at the right position for him where the seatbelt crosses his collarbone, which might look higher than expected, though it shouldn't be so high that the belt is touching his neck. You can also try a different position in the same car. Otherwise it might be better to change to a standalone high back booster seat now if he no longer needs the 5 point harness.

Graco Junior Maxi R129 (I would only use the R129 versions of Graco seats) is only £35 in Halfords, or if you prefer a seat with a proven safety rating, Joie i-Trillo is £50 at Argos and received a "Good" rating on Which/ADAC for safety.

My Grandson is over 25kg so can't use the harness. Thank you.

I don't have the money to buy new but the bold has such good safety testing so I had hoped it would last for a lot longer. I am disappointed by the belt being hard to use.

It is disappointing if you can't use it in the way it was advertised. I think it's difficult for car seats to be compatible with every vehicle. It might work better in another car, if there is anyone e.g. in the family who you could swap seats with.

Unfortunately there is no other family member who can have it. Thank you.
