He’s already (just) over 150 cm and is approximately 40 kg so doesn’t technically need a car seat but the seatbelt still doesn’t quite fit in the right place.

Does anyone use a foam wedge car seat for adults that they can recommend or a seatbelt padded cover to protect the chest a little bit?

DD who is also 10 & slightly taller doesn’t use anything in the car now. She outgrew her high back booster a few months ago & just use the normal belt & seat without a booster cushion.

In what way is the seatbelt not fitting well?

I would not use a foam wedge because they aren't anchored in any way so can cause the belt to slacken in a crash, which is dangerous. It's better to keep using a booster seat (high back or backless) - this is still safe when over 150cm/36kg if they still fit into it and it isn't routing the belt incorrectly e.g. making an N shape anywhere.

I use a padded seatbelt cover for myself and my 6yo (who is in a high back booster, correctly adjusted) because the edges of the seatbelt tend to leave red marks on our necks otherwise. In winter I just fold the hood of my jumper over it but I can't do that when wearing a t-shirt. It doesn't matter which one you get - any random one including from amazon etc is fine.

At the side rear seats it is also worth checking whether the height of the seatbelt itself can be adjusted. It can't usually in the middle.

We use a backless booster seat.
