ERF Seats - Britax or Axkid

My just turned 3 year old is 104cm and so basically outgrown the Maxi Cosi Pearl 360. I think he’s too young for a HBB and I want to keep him rear facing until more like 5/6.

I’m struggling on which ERF seat to get - have considered the Britax Max Safe Pro, the Axkid Minikid 4 and the Axkid Minikid Pro but I’m struggling to see what the difference is (apart from the Axkid Pro seems a bit narrower than the other one). The price differences are significant so you’d assume there was actual differences in features / safety but there doesn’t seem to be.

Any recommendations welcome!

Hi OP,
They’re all Swedish Plus tested, so super safe seats.
Your little one is high centiles for height so I would sway towards the Axkid as they have a longer shell than the Britax, so they should definitely get you to age 5/6. The Britax is also very bulky so unless you have a huge car, you might struggle.
Not sure about the difference between the two Axkid seats.

Ah thank you! I hadn’t realised that Britax were much bulkier. Given it’s massively on sale at the moment, I might go with the Axkid Minikid then as it’s currently cheaper than the other one and probably better longer term as my son is very tall.

The Minikid Pro is just the new name for the Axkid Movekid.

No idea why they've decided to rebrand as this just makes it confusing, IMO.

Anyway - out of the Axkid seats, the best value at the moment is the Minikid 2 if you can still get hold of it.

Their two current seats are the Movekid (or Minikid Pro) and the Minikid 4 (or Minikid Max).

The Move/Pro is the more basic version, with only two recline positions (the two most extreme) and less automation with the headrest adjustment and tether tightening. It's just as safe but lacks some of the "nice to have" features.

You could look at Britax Safe Way M as well which is similar to the Max Safe.

Personally, I don't see the benefit in paying extra for the premium models of these but some people must do or they wouldn't sell any.

I find the videos by Car Seat Margaret on Youtube are usually excellent, I'm sure she has a review of the current Britax seats and the Minikid 4 vs Movekid.

Thank you so much @BertieBotts - that makes a lot of sense. I’ll check out the videos!
