Corsa 3 Door Car seat issue.

Hi All,

I'm hoping there might be some wisdom on these pages.

My LO is currently in her infant seat still, but we need a second seat for when I return to work, so I've been looking at the next size up.
My husband has a 3 door corsa & I'm struggling to find a seat to fit in the back of the car.

The axkid movekid didn't fit in the back today, as the front seat is too close, is there any other seats for me to try?

I was told today that my only option would be is to use the passenger seat & disable the air bag.

Thanks in advance

Hi OP,
I’m fairly certain that the Axkid Movekid is one of the most compact ERF seats on the market, with the Avionaut Sky being slightly more compact (although this has a lower weight limit and a much shorter shell). It might mean that the front passenger seat has to be moved forward a fair bit. Where do you try the seat?
You could consider having it in the front passenger seat assuming you can turn the airbag off?
I’d recommend the Facebook group ERF Car Seat Safety. I’m sure the admins have had ERF seats in at Fiat 500, so I imagine they could help you with a Corsa.

I'm sure the front seat isn't the only option.

Agree it sounds a bit unusual that the Movekid wouldn't fit, especially if an infant carrier seat fits. They weren't trying to fit it in extended legroom were they? Or very reclined - is she quite young still? Or do you need a lot of space in the front seat? Sometimes the Minikid can be better for this because of the fact you can use the in between reclines, whereas Move (or Movekid) is either reclined or not.

The Joie/Graco belt fitted seats can work quite well like Graco Extend, and are fairly compact. The seatbelt is not in the way because there's no door, at least.

Another option some people go for is to look at spin seats, but you need to test them in the car, as you need to check 2 things as well as whether it fits behind the seat. One is the position of the button/release to turn it. If it's on the base then this is usually OK. If it's on the seat, and near the child's feet, you can't easily reach it. The other will be whether you can physically turn it or whether the back of the seat bumps into the car window. And some also have a safety feature which prevents them from being turned forwards. Sometimes that's a switch so you can just un-set it, but sometimes it's linked to things like headrest height so would be a pain for a younger baby.

Thank you both @FamilyAreEverything & @BertieBotts I did think it was strange that I'm struggling so much to find a seat to fit.

The front seat was as forward as it went & the movekid was pushing against the back of the front seat. I'm not sure about the recline function.

The spin seats we can't get into the back seat of the car, as they are quite bulky.

I think we've decided to get a spin seat for my car & look at a belted seat for my Husbands car, as it will be used for the nursery run (which is 5 minutes away)
Is there any joie/graco seats you'd recommend? I'm not overly bothered about ERF right now, just more RF & something that we can try for size.
(I can cross the bridge of when she grows out this new seat in 3 years time, haha)

LO will be 9 months ish when we start using it. Currently 8.1kg, 65cms, at 6.5months

Thank you

I would look at Graco Extend R129, because it's compact and good value and it's got the latest safety standard as well.

At 6 months I think you would have had the Movekid installed reclined. So you may fit it in better once you can sit it more upright. But that might be more like 12m+ rather than 9 months, especially if it's for nursery pick up where she may fall asleep.

Did you try any of the spin seats or is it an assumption they won't fit? We had a Joie 360 Spin in a Suzuki Swift and I've had it in my sister's Hyundai i10 as well. Granted, these are 5 door versions. But I've definitely heard of people having had spin seats in 3-door cars on the FB groups, though granted I can't see any pictures now!

The front passenger seat is an option of course and might be worth considering if DH rarely has any other passenger apart from you and DD. It's no less safe, as long as the airbag is off.

Thank you. It is giving me a proper headache!
I did go and try the joie spin seat in my husbands car, but the shop assistant took one look & decided it wouldn't fit. I might try elsewhere, but we are a bit limited to who has seats in around our area.

Is the graco extend LX R129 the same as the Graco extend R129?
As all I can find when I Google is the LX or one from kiddie kingdom that doesn't mention R129.

Extend R129 with or without LX is the same yes.

The one on Kiddies' Kingdom is the older R44 version (older safety reg) - it's much shorter in the shell and is outgrown much earlier because the child's head can't go over the top unless you have a certain distance from the front seat, which you're unlikely to have.

Joie Spin 360 (I forgot to say this sorry) is no good for three door cars because the button to release the spin is by the child's feet. The i-Spin 360 might work, as the button is on the side. You could go back and see if you see a different assistant?

I’m not sure if it the same size between seats, but we had a small corsa but with back doors also, and we fitted the maxi cosi mica fine. It was one of the smaller ones when we researched

Hi I have the Britax dualfit 360 M in the back seat of my 3 door Corsa. It fits 0-4years ish, but I only moved my daughter onto it when she was about 12-18 months. It's Isofix so is squished against the back seat quite tightly. I bought it because of the reviews on Mumsnet. 😁
Am about to replace it with, probably another Britax.
