Winter coat in booster seat???

Lo has just gone from a toddler seat to a booster seat (so using the adult seat belt). Am I right in thinking that she can now leave her winter coat on in the car or does it still need to come off?

I always took my children's coats off in the car.

Everyone should take their coats off in the car

It's best to take it off, but with a booster seat you can get a kind of "compromise" just by opening the coat and making sure the belt runs over her ordinary clothing.

If that is not possible then lifting the coat up so that the belt at the very least crosses her hips (not tummy) then this is another way to improve the fit.

With coat under the belt will give the worst fit of all.

It is less critical than it is for baby seats - there is not an ejection risk. However, it will cause the belt routing to be less optimal which kind of negates the point of using a booster seat in the first place.

Here's a video from ADAC showing why - it's only in German sorry.

It's safer to remove winter coats so the seatbelt keeps the child better in place in the event of an accident.

Thank you everyone!
