Stage 1 rear facing car seat recommendations please

My 18 month old is currently in an infant carrier but needs a car seat.

Older child is in an axekid minikid and likely to get another 2 years out of it. DH doesn’t fit comfortably in front of this seat.

So I’m looking for a rear facing car seat that DH can get a bit more room in front of. Happy for it to be to 18kg only as well just swap the littlest into the minikid once they outgrow their seats.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think the minikid is one of the most compact. Do you have it fitted on recline and/or extended leg room? Reducing these will make it take up less space.

The 18kg seats are bulkier because they are either isofix and have an anti-rebound bar, or they are reclined if fitted with seatbelt.

I love the Britax Two Way Elite.

It fits almost all cars, forward or rear facing). Doesn't need isofix and so can go in the front or back. Is really easy to move between cars/seat positions if you buy additional sets of tether straps and leave them in place. Can be fitted at many angles, to accommodate child position and front seat positions.

If you can get to Milton Keynes, the In Car Safety Centre has loads of seats in stock and their fabulously knowledgeable staff will fit them in/out of your car for you and advise you on what works best. There is nothing like seeing them all in your own car to see which is the right option for you/your car/your child.

Thanks both.

The Britax doesn’t seem to be available any more. Which is typical as it sounds ideal.

Im not super close to Milton Keynes but I could do it in a day I guess. I might give them a call and see if they could suggest anything over the phone

You could try the Joie tilt or steadi or the new steadi r129

I have the cybex sirona and Joei tilt. The Sirona swivels which is really nice but if you are not bothered by that then the tilt is also nice and way cheaper

There is also Britax Max Way Plus, I don't think it's quite as compact as the old Two Way Elite. I understand it takes up about the same space as the Minikid.

Although this is the Move, the guidance is the same (I think, check with your retailer if unsure) for the minikid - showing the different leg room positions at 10:20 onwards in this video.
