Hi

Having my first child soon and someone is kindly giving us their Maxi cosi pebble plus from 7 years ago - it's been used for 2 children. I've seen a lot about car seats expiring but can't see much about this particular one. I'm assuming I'll be okay ... as they should last about 10 years but just wondering if anyone else any other insight.

It fits on the pushchair I have been given too so just seems the best option to go with.

I'd email Maxi Cosi and ask them - different seats have different expiry dates apparently. Do you know how the seat has been stored (not in a loft or garage as it could have gone mouldy) and that it's not been dropped or in a collision?

It's really about wear and tear more than age specifically. Check it over and make sure it has all the original parts, including newborn insert and strap covers, these often go missing, but you shouldn't use third-party "universal" ones. You should have the original instructions as well or see if you can download them from the Maxi Cosi website (bear in mind there have been the Pebble, Pebble i-size, Pebble Plus, Pebble Pro, Pebble 360 so you'll need to have the correct version!)

And yes no accidents - if your friend knows the full history of it, that's fine. But it's fine to reuse seats if they're from a trusted source. There is a suggested max age of 10 years, which Maxi Cosi say applies to all their infant seats even though they used to print 5 years in the instruction manuals, they now say 10 years despite this.

I think the attic/garage fear is a bit overblown - as long as it's not mouldy, it's not going to have secret invisible mould just from being stored in these places. We had no issues with ours which were stored in a cellar between children, but some boxes of books went mouldy in our bedroom.
