Afternoon all.
Hope you’re all ok?
out little boy is just short of 2weeks old and after a little stay at the neonatal hospital he will shortly be able to make his way home.
Question… anyone got any advice / info for the above car seat in fitting a prem baba. About 1.6kg. Struggling to fit him in it securely, although the seat has tonnes of padding and removable layers there doesn’t seem to be any way of moving the buckle to a second position via another slot.
Any ideas or recommendations would be great guys. Thank you.

Bless him. What car seat do you have right now? Is it the Oyster Capsule? Oyster 3 is the pushchair name. It should take Maxi Cosi adapters, if you're open to trying a different seat, I would try the Maxi Cosi Pebble Pro. The insert is very good for smaller babies. You could also look at the infant seats by Avionaut, those go onto the same adapters, and tend to be very good for smaller babies as well. Has your hospital done a car seat test or given you any info about the car seat?

If you want to stick with the car seat that you have, they used to recommend rolling up a muslin blanket and putting it under the baby's nappy so he is kind of sitting on it, (not lying on it) but between him and the crotch buckle, that boosts them up so that they meet the shoulder straps. However this is not usually recommended any more because it was a kind of makeshift solution back when car seats didn't have any adjustable padding for different ages. You could try to contact Babystyle and see if they would approve it.

Looking on the car seat groups on FB, a lot of people seem to struggle with fitting newborns into this seat even newborns of 4kg+, so it might be you're best off with another seat if at all possible. It might be that even the muslin trick isn't enough because the gap is too large.

Hi Bertie.
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry, yes I should have specified I’ve just been informed by my wife it is the capsule that the car seat in 😂.
funnily enough the nurses suggested the muslin trick too. The seat itself if ideal with lots of padding etc that can be removed it’s just the crotch strap part doesn’t allow for adjustment in height. If that makes sense.

I have a Joie 360 I-spin for my car so I’m wondering if this might be a better option as it has various stages and angles in which you can adapt. Worth a shot. If all else fails I guess we may have to walk😂.

UK car seats don't typically have adjustable crotch straps, that part is normal. Usually the shoulder straps will adjust instead, so they start off quite low and close to the crotch strap and then move up as the baby grows. It looks from looking at photos on the car seat groups (can't share outside the group for privacy reasons, but you can join any car seat group on FB and search "oyster") that even the lowest strap height on this seat is fairly large.

Unfortunately I think you'll have the same issue with the Joie 360. It's a lovely seat, I have one for my one year old, but it's not very well suited for smaller newborns.

I know it's not the cheapest thing ever but I honestly would recommend this if you can stretch to it - you wouldn't need the isofix base as you can belt fit it into the car. When baby is a bit older the Oyster seat and Joie 360 should fit lovely but I probably wouldn't expect to get a great fit in either of those yet. You might even be able to swap the Oyster seat for this model if you go back to your original retailer.

The Avionaut pixel Pro is meant to be the best seat for tiny babies it has a better height limit than the maxi cosi so you can use it for longer. Your joie 360 normally doesn't get a good fit until a few months old so likely to be longer for you with a smaller baby.
