Smart Cars.. 2 seats!

Can any one help. I have searched all over the net for solid information about children and travelling in front seats of a car such as a smart car... but it all seems to be focused on children in child seats. I need info on an older child that does not need a car seat in the back of a 4 seater because he is over the height/weight requirements. Does this mean he can travel in the front seat... should the air bag be on or off?
Thanks in advance.

Children can travel in the front in the UK anyway as long as they are in a car seat (if they need one).

As he's tall enough to go without he is considered as an adult and the airbag should be on. If he fits the seat better with a booster you could use one.
