Britax Advansafix M vs anything else?

Have spent all evening down a car seat rabbit hole 🙈

I like the Britax Advansafix M but really didn't want to spend more than £200 (I know I know). Any alternative recommendations?

Context is that we're about to have DC2 so DD needs to move out of her Joie 360 spin (which I bloody love especially when she's a ball of tantrum who just needs to be strapped in so we can go). She's nearly 3, a little big for her age; above 15kg/105cm. I just can't think she's behaviourally ready to be in a seatbelt instead of a fixed harness.

I've always had Britax and they've been great they are worth the money. However I never brought one to last that period of time. My reservation would be it gets filthy /sick on / food on and gets ruined making it not last as long as it should. Yes you can wash the covers of course but is a total faff.

DD is car sick semi regularly, something about DHs driving apparently 😅

We change the cover on her Joie often, it came with 2 so we whip one off and put the other on straight away. Then spare goes back in the car once clean. I'd 100% be getting a spare cover for the new seat!

Yep same problem with the sickness!

I'm also talking rubbish in that I have purchased a seat for that age range - we had the Evolva which is cheaper - but not until they were 4 / 5 and never intended it to last until 12!

CorpusCallosum · 19/01/2022 09:46

The Evolva says it's suitable up to 12 years. Why you wouldn't plan on keeping it that long?

My 9 year old is now of the height/weight where she doesn't need it.

Cheeseontoastforlunch · 19/01/2022 22:28

If she’s only 2 she’s nowhere near being able to wear a seatbelt from a skeletal or emotional maturity point of view. I think you have to be 4 to safely use a seatbelt from a skeletal point, whether she can sit sensibly and not fall asleep varies by child, not sure my 4 year old could! Have you looked at the britax max way or max way plus? Harness her to 25kg so age 5/6 at which point she could move into a high backed booster? It’s often on offer for less than £200. If you want her forward facing then the Joie Bold harnesses to 25kg as well (we have both seats in different cars).

voxnihili · 23/01/2022 21:35

The harness on the advansafix goes to 21kg but only 102cm - I got caught out with that.

NatalieH2220 · 23/01/2022 21:46

Britax Max way plus is £199 in some
Places at the minute and RF up to 25kg so should last until she's ready for a booster. I have this for my 4yo and would recommend.

😲 she's over that now and she's only just over 15kg. You have saved me from a very expensive mistake. Thank you 🙌

As above, 4-4.5 is the earliest I would look to use a high backed booster as before then their pelvis isn’t developed enough for it to be safe. I would look at the axkid move, britax maxway or joie bold.

concerned3022 · 23/01/2022 22:49

We have a britax max way for 2yo DD I would highly recommend. Look around for offers, I managed to get ours for £165 in the sale.

Will dc2 be going straight to joie from birth or will they have an infant carrier initially?
If so I'd stick to infant seat as long as possible and have dd continue in the joie for another year.
We are in a similar position but ds is almost 4 and 17.7kg so really do need to move him out of the spin. Dd is 6 months but happily still using the infant carrier and didn't look right when I tried her in the joie so waiting another couple of months before I move her.
There's the baby auto dupla has a harness to 25kg and then converts to highback booster to 12. I'm also looking at cybex solution xfix as it is a highback booster with a reclining headrest in case they fall asleep or maybe the britax kid fix as it is a highback with the crotch strap but my ds is almost a year older I definitely wouldn't have changed him out of the harness until at least now and I'm still struggling as to what's best tbh

We have 2 cars, 2 children and need 4 car seats 🙈

Now we have 2x spins and an infant carrier. Plan is for her to have a next size car seat in one car and baby use her vacated spin. In the other car she keeps her spin for a bit and baby uses the carrier.

We used the spin from a few weeks old for DD in one car and the carrier in the other. It wasn't perfect but the carrier was a PITA. It fit safely but not well in my car and hurt my back so the spin was better for my infrequent short trips out.

I'll take a look at the other suggestions, thank you 🙌

Updating in case anyone else in the same predicament finds this thread.

We ended up with a Joie Bold.

Thanks for all the help 🙌
