Looking for a car seat for our little boy for when he turns 4. We have a Ford Focus and have tried the Joie Traver in it which seems nice except it’s really difficult to do up the belt in the buckle, the seat seems to sit right up against the bit you buckle into.

Can anyone recommend a good one that’s easy to do up or what we might have done wrong?

It's probably just a case of trial and error. Do you have the opportunity to try different seats in the car?

I can't remember, does the Joie have the solid isofix or the hooks? If it's the hook type you can often shift the seat slightly to one side to access the buckle more easily. Otherwise the isofix is optional on high backed booster seats anyway, so you can just tuck it away in order to move the seat across.

It is also worth trying the seat on the other side of the car as sometimes the seatbelt buckle is slightly differently placed.

Lastly you don't have to move him as soon as he turns 4, you can keep him in the seat he is in as long as he is within the height and weight limit.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I’ll have a look at the type of isofix and see if we can shuffle it. I’ll try it without the isofix too - although I do prefer to use it - and the other side of the car. We could try other seats in the car too if shops are still offering it.

He’s tall and has a long back so we wanted to get prepared and have the next one lined up for when he’s too tall for the current one.
