FF Car seats with 25kg harness

Hi all,

I was hoping someone here could help me.

I have twins who are nearly 18kg and 104cm tall, they are ff and have been for a long time due to travel sickness. Im looking for their next car seats as they have almost outgrown their current Joie seats however I am conscious that if they are ff it would be best to try to get the 5 point harness due to their young age.

They are 4 in March and we have a car that would allow seatbelt, top tether and isofix, what would your recommendation be?

Thank you in advance! Charlotte x

Hi, my 2 year old is already over 18kg, and we wanted the harness to last longer too for the same reason and we got the Joie Bold. It is up to 25kg harnessed. I looked into it a lot, and some great advice on here which led me to that seat and we've been really happy with it.

Joie Bold is probaby the best one out there.

Or Britax Advansafix i-size if they still fit in the harness and you don't mind going over the height limit. That's only 21kg limit though.

Thank you @BertieBotts @Kcoffecakebubs I don’t know whether to go for the Britax Kidfix as that’s from 3.5 yrs old with a seat belt (has a chest strap and crotch pad) or the Joie Bold?

I'm no expert like @BertieBotts (who I think actually led us to the bold), bit I think the other one is a high back booster. So wouldn't be the same kind of seat. I'd definitely reccomend the bold though.

But my son was 18kg at 24 months, so I see your twins are older. There may be a difference. But we knew our son would 100% not be ready for a seatbelt only so young.

@kcoffecakebubs I think you’re right! It looks like the Britax advansafix might be a good middle ground as it harnesses to 21kg. I’m reluctant to go for the bold just because all of our previous seats have been Joie and I’ve found the harnesses a bit of a fiddle.

The only issue with the Advansafix is that technically the harness is limited to 102cm, I'm never sure why, and the physical height of it is no higher than other 18kg seats, so I'd want to try it out in a shop first.

There are other 25kg seats on the market but no idea what the harnesses are like (or the crash safety) - BabyAuto Dupla, Cozy n Safe Excalibur, Enfasafe Event FX (the last 2 are the same seat model as it's a generic one sold under several names).

Smyths tend to stock all of these options if you have one nearby.

Kidfix has no harness at all, it's just seatbelt, so no good if you want a 5 point harness. I tend to lean towards seatbelt being better for FF than harness, but only if the child is mature/sensible enough to sit properly, if they aren't, then a harness is obviously better.
