Pad the hips in car seat?

Hi!

I have been advised to pad the car seat around the hips, to prevent the baby moving from the center position, with a rolled up cloth on both sides.

Now the baby is 10 months old and I still do that.
Or should I stop?
There is still some space left and right around the hips between the baby and the edge of the seat, so padding seems to make sense.

The seat is a Maxi Cosi Pebble.

Regards,
David

Who advised you to do that? I've never needed to do that

I have never heard of this. Did your baby have some kind of medical issue requiring this?

xerces8 · 20/08/2021 12:22

No, just the fact that the seat is much wider than the baby. Especially for a newborn.

Don't remember, probably the staff in the hospital.

They said:

  • pad around the head, so it does not bob around
  • pad left and right (so the baby does not slide to the side)
  • pad under the knees (for comfort)

Never heard of that. Doesn't the seat have a newborn insert anyway?

Was your baby prem or particularly small? I remember buying a special car seat insert for my prem baby.

Either way, I cannot believe this is necessary for a 10 month old who can support their own head and torso well. In fact it’s more likely to be annoying. Do you slide around in the car just because there is space each side of you? Or does gravity keep you in place…

That sounds like a hell of a lot of padding. Most seats come with a pad that goes around the head for when they are a newborn. But padding around the hips and under knees I have never heard of.

I would certainly think a 10 month old would not require it

It has an insert that goes under the buttocks.

No.

We had that car seat, there's a whole new born insert that they snuggle into. My new born filled it absolutely fine without anything extra at all. Never heard of that either.

I think you can stop op x
