How to position mirrors?

Our car seat is the Joie I-spin 360 so it's huge, and means that DP can't sit in the passenger seat as it has to be quite far forward and he's 6'4.

Since I'll always have to be in the passenger seat if we're both in the car, is there a way I can see the baby when it's directly behind me? We have a headrest mirror and I've tried putting it on the headrest of the unused backseat behind the driver and angling it so I can see the baby via it and my sun visor mirror, but I can't get the angle right.

Is there anything I'm missing? I hate the idea of not being able to see the baby whenever DP is with us! 37 weeks today so have some time to try and figure out a solution.

Sit in the back with the baby?

I had thought about that but then DP has the drivers seat so far back because of his tree legs that I'm not sure I would actually fit. It's like the car has all of its length in the boot and the bonnet and nothing in the middle!

You can buy a small second "rear view mirror" that you can position below the actual mirror, and then angle it so that you can see the mirror attached to the middle back headrest. We have the joie 360 too, and that's what we do. Takes a while to get the angles right though!

Just depends on your car, in one of ours I can see the mirror for the seat behind the passenger seat fine in the mirror on my sun visor, in the other car I can't and just have to turn around to check on him. That said, I mostly sat in the back when he was a newborn because he was a crier. You can sit in the middle seat if there's not enough foot room behind the driver (I sat between a joie 360 and an infant carrier with an isofix base, so it's doable).

I'm so confused...

You just buy a baby mirror and attach it to the headrest that the baby seat is on

You either then turn around and look if you're a passenger, or whoever is driving uses the mirror to look

Unless I'm missing something, I've never had an issue without something so simple?

Some Peugeots and Citroens have an extra wide angle mirror mounted above the main mirror so the driver can see the occupants (as far as headrests and such allow).

Otherwise, as pp have suggested, something like this

Sorry, misread that you were in the passenger seat but the same should apply. This is an alternative - it looks like it goes over the main mirror with elastic

No, it won't work because the rear view mirror is angled towards the driver so the angle will never be correct for you as a passenger to look into it to the back of the car. Your sun visor mirror is equally not in the right place. I probably wouldn't want to add extra mirrors in the middle next to the rear view mirror in case it's distracting for the driver.

You need a big mirror for the headrest of the seat the baby's seat is installed on. Then you can turn around in your seat and see them from there.

Otherwise, sit in the back? It's quite normal to do this with a first baby IME. I still sit in the back with DS2 in his Joie 360 when they pick me up from work on the days I'm finished at his bedtime, because he tends to be overtired/over emotional and wants to have me in view. (He is 2 Blush) Normally, and actually when we first brought him home from hospital, I sat in the front.

Longer term - sounds like you need a Skoda Superb :o

I've had a thought today while in the car. Could you position a mirror so that you can see it in the wing mirror on the passenger side?
