Group 1 rear facing car seat without a base

Hi,

I'm going round in circles looking for car seat so hoping someone can help...

I need to buy a seat for my DM's car for when she takes my DS out. I want it to be rear facing but that doesn't need a base so she can easily take it out when he's not with her (she'll only be using it once a week and she's also not good at these things). Does such a thing exist? DS is 14 months and quite weighty.

Ideally it would be a seat that in a few years we can turn to face forwards as I don't want to keep buying kit.

Joie tilt is rather cheap (only around £70) and easy to install.

But you said that your DC is quite big so might be worth investing in a 25kg seat instead, as these tend to last longer. Cheapest one is Britax two way elite, at around £160. But if it’s only being used around once a week the tilt should be OK!

Do you know DS's height and weight or what centiles he is on?

What car seat are you using in your own car?

For ease of fitting, your best bet is probably an isofix seat, but the vast majority of these have a weight limit of 18kg, so if your DS is on the big side (in terms of centiles) you should be aware that he will probably outgrow it before he turns 4.

Joie seats are generally good value and have decent safety scores so I'd look at those if I were you.

He's on the 95th percentile for weight and 75th for height. It's ok that he'll outgrow what we get though as we already have a forward facing car seat for my DD in my mum's car and she'll probably be out of it in a year or so. Never ending cycle of stuff!

We have the britax romer dualfix for both of them in our car. Great seats as we do long journeys to see family but so pricey! The Joie Tilt looks great. Will get that.
