Where to get car seat checked its properly installed

Hi MN,

I recently purchased a Cybex cloud Q isofix base and seat from the NEC babyshow a few months ago,

I’ve just turned 37 weeks and my DH has put the base and seat in the car, but...... the base moves up and down... i.e. you lift it and the leg comes up off the floor in the footwell.

I’m not sure if thats right?? And i wanted to take it to a store to get it checked.

But... stores wont check it as i didnt purchase it from them which is understandable, can anyone think of a store wherby i could get it checked to make sure its ok?

An independent car seat specialist will probably check it if you just turn up

But - it’s normal for an isofix base to lift up and down a little - it has nothing securing it down at the end nearest the front seat so this movement is normal. What isn’t normal is if it moves side to side (ie you can pull the base towards you or push it away from you) as this means it’s not tightly enough clicked into the isofix

May be different in the UK, but in my US state any police officer will check it for you

Either independent specialist, contact ‘the good egg’ car safety, they may be able to recommend a trained fitter near you or there is a facebook group ‘car seat advice uk’ that gives fit check advice based on photographs/ videos you take.

Also, looking up a YouTube fit video may help but obviously not the same as a professional fitter. It’s great you want to get it checked, so many people have car seats fitted incorrectly.

Please don’t use Halfords or Mothercare, it’s so hit and miss as often staff don’t have proper training and you can end up with poor advice.

If you can get to a branch of the in car safety centre they are fantastic, all staff properly trained and they really know what they are talking about.

Check it with a few bags of flour inside.

Join the Facebook group 'car seat advice uk'. It's run by car seat experts and you can post photos and videos of the installation to check.

Unfortunately not all car seats fit all cars, even if they're on the fit list.
