How tight? Constantly adjusting straps

I usually go by the pinch test when putting DS in his car seat, but this means that when I've taken him out, and go to put him back in again, the straps are way too tight and are nowhere close to doing up again.

So every time we have to loosen and tighten the straps to the point where it takes a good 5/10 minutes of him squirming and screaming while I'm faffing with the straps. It's not so bad in his travel system carseat, but in the isofix seat my mum has in her car it's rediculous.

Does anyone else have this problem or do you just settle for a happy medium between safety and comfort? (Which sounds really bad when you put it like that)

Surely all the adjusting isn't good for the straps? I don't want to take the chance of it not being tight enough incase we have an accident, but there must be an easier way to do it with out the constant adjusting!

(Oh and he's 12 weeks so it's a baby size carseat if it makes any difference)

You adjust the straps every time you use the seat. I've never found it takes more than a few seconds though? I tend to loosen when I take the kids out, then next time you put them in you just pull them tight.

You must fit the straps properly every time you use the car seat.

Loosen the straps every time you take him out. Then tighten the straps when he goes back into the seat.

Make sure clothing isn't restricting the straps - so no coats, snowsuits, anything bulky or puffy.

Yeah he's usually only in a hoodie when we out him in the car, and then with a blanket on top.

I wasn't sure if it was just me being overly cautious or whatever, but if it's the norm then that's fine. It's just when I tighten it, he screams bloody murder as if I'm cutting him in half (soon as we're driving he's fine) and it's awkward to get your finger in the loosening hole, but I'll put that down to the design of the car seat.

The straps should be tight enough that you are happy to hold his car seat up side down.

It's very normal to have to adjust them every time, that's why it's easy to loosen them - don't worry about it putting wear and tear on the straps, they're designed to do that.
