Best cushioning/comfort: Britax Adventure or Maxi Cosi Rodi SPS

Does anyone happen to know which of these seems the most padded and cushiony? I've seen the Britax and, despite the mostly positive reviews, was surprised by how little cushioning it seemed to have. The seat and sides seemed quite hard to me. I haven't been able to find the Maxi Cosi Rodi SPS in any local shops yet.

Looking for something for only very rare use (maybe 2-3 times a year), so don't want to spend a fortune. Any other suggestions would be welcomed too.

2-3 times a year? Go with the Adventure. You can often find it reduced to £30. Check price matching. DS used this seat for long distance drives, and the only comfort problem was that his legs dangled over the edge and his feet went to sleep, which happens with all boosters. We put a box/suitcase under the seat as a footrest, which alleviated this.

I like with the Adventure that due to the angle of the headrest, it acts as a kind of pillow and stops their head from lolling forwards if they fall asleep. I know they aren't really supposed to fall asleep in HBBs, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Looking at the Maxi Cosi it doesn't seem to have the same angle.

There is no recline on the Adventure if that is a concern for you.

We did replace it a couple of years ago as it got damaged and have a Cybex one now, I can't remember which, but their cheapest one. It was about €60 which was the cheapest we could find here on a brand that I was willing to touch! I'm not 100% sure, because I never compared them directly, but I believe the highest position of the headrest was higher on the Britax. DS has been in the highest setting for a while now and is threatening to outgrow it completely at 137cm-ish.

I don’t know about the maxi cosi as it’s not listed, but the Britax Adventure is a Which ‘don’t buy’ car seat, if that matters to you.

Is it, twinning? That surprises me -you don't happen to have the subscription to know why it failed? I thought it was very good.

Bertie, the front crash test results are poor - 2*. Better for side impact. Overall which score is 42% which makes it a ‘dont buy’.

The problem is not all the car seats are listed. I like the look of the Rodi SPS but I can’t find a which score for it, so no idea if it’s any better. The SPS is not that well padded though (which was OP’s question!)

Oh dear. Thanks for the additional info, Twinning. The Adventure appears to be hugely popular, so to hear that it doesn't have a good safety record really is surprising.

I guess I'll look into spending a bit more and compare some other models. Maybe the Britax Kid II, Kidfix XP or Discovery?

Stressful! We don't even have a car, so really concerned about making the wrong decision.

Lyra, those seats all get better scores - KidFix and Kid II get low 70s and Discovery high 60s. The Discovery is narrower than the others, I’m considering it for that reason as I need to fit one in beside other car seats.

Anything with fix in the title will be isofix - though I'm not sure if it matters much with HBB - perhaps you can fit an isofix one with the seatbelt anyway? But I wouldn't get an isofix only seat if it's for using in different cars.

I think those Isofix ones can also be secured with seat belt only., but will double-check before deciding.
