When they've grown out of it?

We've got a group 1 car seat so suitable up to 4 years old approx as they say on the guidelines. Mine has just turned 4.

But what I really want to know is how do you actually when they've grown out of it? I mean I knew how to tell when they grow out of baby seats I found that quite easily but I can't find this info! She's small for her age you see so thinking if we'll only get a the group up when we need to. But don't know how you tell! Does anyone know?

Does it not have a maximum weight limit in the instructions?

RandomUsernameHere · 21/10/2017 21:02

Ours has a maximum weight limit. Also I think the top of the DC's head should be below the top of the headrest (which can be adjusted).

Bewiser · 21/10/2017 21:04

I think it's based on weight limit and also if their temples are in line with the top of the seat. The top of the head being in line with the top of the seat was just for infant carriers. Could you contact the manufacturer?

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 21/10/2017 21:07

What seat is it. Forward or rear facing.

dementedpixie · 21/10/2017 21:10

It will have a weight limit and is ok until the ears are in line with the top of the seat

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 21/10/2017 21:10

Group one is generally 18kg and when eyes/tips of ears are level with back of seat when forward facing.
Rearfacing normally the same but some models have different guidance.

dementedpixie · 21/10/2017 21:11

18kg/40lb is normally the weight limit for group 1

purpleme12 · 21/10/2017 21:34

It's britax first class plus. Thanks realised you're right weight limit is 18kg we're way off that!
Not sure about height re seat but seeing as she's short for her age I don't think it sound be a problem

(it's forward facing forgot to say)

Yep so as I said before. Just watch harness dipping below her shoulders though. It should be at or just above.

Purpleball · 21/10/2017 21:47

I’ve just had DS checked as he’s 16kg and the limit on his seat is 18kg
I asked about height at as long as his eyes are no higher than the top of the seat he’s fine
Well just keep an eye on it. Was hoping for another year about of the seat. He’s only just turned 2!

purpleme12 · 21/10/2017 21:55

Oh my gosh! I think that's the advantage of having a small child things last longer!

Purple do you know if that means top of the main body of the seat or top of the headrest when it has been extended up above the back of the seat? (If that makes any sense)

purpleme12 · 21/10/2017 22:10

By the way where did you get him checked?

He was weighed at measured by HV a few weeks ago.
I went to John Lewis and asked them and she showed me
My understanding is it’s where his head sits so if there is something that extends that’s fine as it’s the point of it
