Boosters - really worth the extra ££

Hi

I'm sorting out new boosters for my three dc. Dc1 is 132cm (9) so I'm going to keep her in her high back Britax booster. Dc2 is 7 and 124cm, needs a new seat and dc3 is 4 and 102cm needs a new seat. There seems to be a massive jump between £50 seats then £180+ seats and I can't find any info on justification of the price.

Can anyone help please?

It a.so depends on the weight of your youngest child as to whether they need a harness or can use the adult seatbelt

How much do you think you can afford to spend? I remember having maxi cost Rodri xr seats but don't think they make that one any more. Think the equivalent seat is about £100.

If there's a massive safely / performance issue I can afford the more expensive but don't want to waste money unnecessarily

The function of a high backed booster is simply to lift your child up to the correct height so that the adult seatbelt fits them properly. Most seats around the £50 mark are just as good as the £150+ ones. The exception to that would be the cheap Graco high backed boosters, in the ADAC tests they performed poorly even with the removable back section attached. Basically the back provides no side impact protection.

At the cheaper end the Britax Adventure and the Joie Trillo are good seats. I have two Adventures and I really like them. I also have a Britax KidFix SL, but I managed to get that for £76 on offer.

It's not worth spending over £100 on a high backed booster. The most important thing is that the lap part of the seatbelt sits low down almost across the child's thighs, the fit of the lap belt can vary from seat to seat so your should try a couple of different ones with your child in them.
