Maxi Cosi AxissFix Fitting Question??

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone out there could help while I am awaiting an official response from the manufacturer on this one...

I went to John Lewis at the weekend, and after much reassurance from the assistant that we were choosing the right seat for our baby and car, we bought the AxissFix. We then took it home, double checked the website and immediately found that, in our car, installation is apparently not possible. We are slightly confused though, as our car is fairly modern (5 years old), and does have isofix (including the top tether point)?! Has anyone else encountered this, and know why Maxi Cosi say that this seat is not compatible?

I have contacted them directly, but have not yet heard back, and John Lewis Customer Service Line just says to follow the manufacturer's advice.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

What car is it? Did John Lewis fit it in the car for you?

It's a BMW X1, they offered to fit it when it arrived (it had to be ordered in as they had none in stock, we just had to call when it it arrived (this afternoon), so I've yet to phone and book the fitting.

Looking at the other thread on here about it I would take the opportunity to cancel the order. Also, it only rear faces up till age 2.

Thanks Captaincake, but I do like the Maxi-Cosi, so if we can use it, we will. Still no response from the manufacturer though, so it's not looking good currently.

There's a thread about a babys head forcefully falling forward in this seat. I would be inclined to cancel the order if the manufacturer states the seat is not suitable for your car. There's many other good seats to choose from.

Going on that other thread, and the manufacturer specifically stating it is not suitable, definitely dont buy!

The mothercare website has a lot of 1* reviews because of this. I think it is the angle of the seats makes the carseat too upright

Hmm, good to get that point of view. The advice on the maxi cosi site is conflicting as the PDF download says it is compatible with the car and then another section doesn't list the car at all?! I would like to hear from them directly, but no one is getting back to me in a hurry. It looks like we may have to exchange the seat and consider the Axiss instead in a few months time.

Just thought I'd give an update on this for anyone else who may stumble across the same question... It turns out that for all cars using the top tether system, you just need to confirm that your car has a genuine top tether fixture point related to Isofix rather than just a luggage hook on either the back of the seat or in the boot.

We did end up getting very mixed advice between John Lewis and MaxiCosi and depending on who you spoke to at MaxiCosi, we got a different answer as to whether our car was indeed compatible. When we finally drilled them down as to the reason why some cars are and some are not compatible, the above was the reasoning. I hope that helps someone else out there. We did decide in the end to return the seat and plumped for the Nuna Rebl instead, which we are really happy with.
