Need a HBB for less than a week? Which one?

Got a friend visiting from abroad with her 5 year old. Will need to get a car seat for her for that time. I will need one for DD when she's outgrown her stage 1 but can't decide which one to get her so don't want to buy it yet. Was thinking of getting the Britax Adventure for my friend's DD, she's got a similar one with Isofix at home using seat belt. Any other options? Will probably have to sell it afterwards as we don't have a lot of storage. Seen it online on offer for less than £30. My friend said by law in her country she would only need the booster cushion seat and she is happy for one of those but they cist around £20 so not much difference. Any ideas?

I don't know I'm afraid but I know you can hire them when you hire a car. Try a Google search. We have just hired a roof box so I'm sure there must be a company that hires out car seats!

Someone mention nct hiring them on here last week. Do you have any friends with older dc? He could just have a booster cushion if over 22kg , although the law is due to change, and likes of halfords and Wilko sell them for under £10

Are you sure you don't have storage space for a high backed booster? I would not be happy with a 5 year old on a backless booster, my 9 year old son is 141cm tall and still perfectly happy and comfortable in his high backed booster (the seatbelts in our car don't fit him properly without it). This is why I'm keeping him in it

Anyway, I would buy a Britax Adventure and keep it as a spare for future use. If you are anything like me you'll find yourself giving hordes of children lifts to birthday parties, Rainbows etc as your daughter gets older and it's much easier just to have your own spare seat than have to keep asking other parents for theirs and carrying them around. I have three children and almost enough car seats to open my own shop!

I DON'T want to use a booster cushion, that's why I'm asking for advice! Saw one on Kiddycare website for £80 with Isofix and Harness until 25 kg so might look into that, then I could it for our DD when she's old enough. Feeling a bit indecisive at the moment and hugely regret not having gotten the Cybex seat with impact cushion in the first place but that's too late now

We have a Britax Adventure and are very pleased with it. If you will need a hhb in the future and decide you do have room to store it then also look at the britax kidfix which is an isofix.

I'm pretty sure the harness on the Kiddicare one will only be up to 18kgs. As far as I know it's only the Britax Two Way Elite and the Britax Advansafix that have a harness that can be used up to 25kgs, and they both cost over £200.

Alice, yes that's what I thought as well. Their website does say to use the harness until 25kg but I might email or ring them to clarify. Would be too good to be true, wouldn't it. Can't find any reviews on it either. Read on here that the Advancafix isn't very big so doesn't really work until 36 kg or whatever they advertise.

Just googled the kiddicare seat their website is now saying harness up to 18kg they do two one is issofix and one isnt they both only go up to 18kg.

I would get the britax adventure if its just for one week. If you dd is going to need one with in the next year I would go and choose one for her now and get it now and then your friend can use it. Storing one for years even if you had the space may be a bad idea. New seat come out all the time and you may want a new safer one when the time comes.

Hiring one. We came to the uk for a visit a couple of mouths ago and decided it was cheaper to buy the adventure than hire one with the car. It did mean she had to travel a short distance without one but as she legally didn't need one. I though it was worth the risk knowing that when we had bough one she would be in a high back. i think the car hire place would of given us just a booster.

If your car is listed it might be that it doesn't have the top tether points for Isofix. If your car isn't listed it just means they've not tested it yet. The seat might be perfectly ok for your car, but they won't say it is because they have not tested it.

I can't find the top tether points. Could I still use the seat secured with isofix and seat belts?

No, the Advansafix has to use the top tether too. In my car the top tether points are little metal bars built into the back of the rear (or middle row, it's a 5+2 car) - you can see them if you look in the boot. They are clearly marked, like you get little isofix material tags or 'buttons' on the front of the seats.

I emailed Incarsafety centre yesterday, they said Advansafix doesn't fit but 2 Way Elite does so will have to get that one. But I hope DD xan stay in her group 1 for a bit longer, though now I feel that I have to get DC2 a 2 way as well, if i had thought a bit more about the bext stage I could have skipped the stage 1 completely, couldn't I.
