Jane Strata too big

Hi all,

Hoping the combined wisdom of mumsnet can help solve our problem. We have a brand new strata car seat that we bought before our DD was born. The instructions, we site etc give no lower weight limit. However, she arrived at a tiny 5lb 3oz, and we just can't make the harness small enough. We have moved the slider at the back as low as it will go, and pulled the straps through the adjuster by her feet until no more will fit through(the strap gets wider and won't slide any more) I csnnearly my whole fist between her and the harness.

I don't seem to be able to find any contact details to speak to someone at Jane, and the supplier we purchased from says other than ensuring we have adjusted the straps correctly they can't help (they are too far away for us to go back in person, especially without a car seat)

Anyone any bright ideas what we can do?

I believe you can get inserts for newborns, but be careful about inserting anything between the baby and the straps. It must be restrained by the straps as well (attached to them, not loose but held in by them) and not able to be compressed (bulky coats, etc) or it will render the harness useless in a crash.

I would imagine that she'll bulk up fairly quickly, so it should only be a matter of weeks, but still annoying. Can you ask around friends and family and see if you can borrow a seat (swap temporarily for yours) until she gets a bit bigger?

Look for stuff for premature babies. I know she is just small but the size will be the main issue.

Newborn insert. £49.99 but will last several months and supports tiny newborn. Congratulations on your baby

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. For now we have managed to borrow a maxi cosy that fits her just fine, but I'll have a look at the inserts too - hopefully we can sort something sensible out!
